Parental Alienation

Parental Alienation is the process, and result, of psychological manipulation (often, but not exclusively, called brainwashing) of a child or children by an Alienator whose aim is to make their child show unwarranted fear, disrespect or hostility towards the other ‘targeted’ Parent.

This represents a distinctive form of psychological abuse and family violence, both towards the child or children and the rejected target parent. It occurs almost exclusively in association with family separation or divorce, particularly involving complex Court Actions.

The most common cause is one parent wishing to exclude, and therefore alienate, the other parent from the life of their child. Parental Alienation often leads to long-term, or even life long, estrangement of a child from one parent.

Parental Alienation is a significant adverse childhood experience and a form of child abuse or trauma which potentially results in significant increase in lifetime risks of both mental and physical illness of the child.

In my personal experience of over thirty years of Parental Alienation, not only involving my five children but also their nine children, my Grandchildren, this severe mental illness becomes ingrained within the personality and psyche of each child.

In my dealings with the consequences of Parental Alienation I confirm that all the people exposed never appear to wholly recover because the brainwashing and abuse is so immersive and totally invasive.
